Metaphors

I’m gearing up for the next revision of Debris and have been thinking a lot about how this stage feels. This might make me sound like a crazy person but I’ve been searching for the right metaphor. A bit like taking a very deep breath. A bit like setting out on a long journey. Neither of these felt right. But then I got it.

Revising Debris is like eating a huge chocolate cake. I know I’ll enjoy it. I know it’s rich and delicious. But I also know I’ll feel sick by the end and will need a lie down. So this preparation stage is all about drinking water, about eating a light breakfast of yogurt and fruit. It’s about getting the tummy and taste buds nice and ready before I indulge.

And yeah, I ate way too much food today. It was a friend’s birthday. Birthday brunch at work, birthday cake, birthday chocolate. So this metaphor was kinda inevitable.

This morning, as I was getting into my car for some strange reason, that very thought occurred to me. Pity it hadn’t popped up at the time :p

  3. Metaphor sounds so much better than similie. More… literary somehow. ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Yes, literary! That’s what I was going for… ๐Ÿ˜‰
