A little gem of wisdom

This is it, people. Revelation time. Guess what? Writing is hard. That’s right. Hard.

It’s hard to sit at a computer when everyone else is taking the day off. It’s hard to look at a plot point or a sentence or a paragraph you love so much and concede it has to go. It’s hard to try something new, admit you can’t do it right the first time, then rework it until it is. Yep, hard.

And yeah, I knew this before. And yeah, it’s worth it on so many levels. But there are some days — possibly due to the headache? — when it just feels hard.

  1. I hear ya! Lately, even writing first drafts has been like pulling teeth for me. Why are stories that sound so awesome in my head such crap on paper? :p

so true! i also agree on the first draft thing – it just drags on endlessly and is just really really bad no matter how good it looked in your head.

  2. It’s okay if a first draft doesn’t stand up to the image you had in your head. I give you both permission *so generous*

That’s what all this revision is for 🙂

  3. Jo, you are too kind! 😉

  4. Yep, that’s me 😉

Yes, yes you are. I was wandering through when I saw this post, and I thought, if it’s hard for Jo, it’s ALLOWED to be hard for me! 🙂 thanks, I’m going back to my mindless fiddling with sentences as well.

  5. Hehehe well good to hear! Glad my aimless ramblings make sense to someone 🙂
